Maternity Reflexology is a tailored reflexology treatment aimed specifically at women during pre-conception, pregnancy, and the post-natal period.
I am very experienced in treating maternity clients and am qualified to treat throughout pregnancy. I have post graduate qualifications in both supporting Conception and Maternity Reflexology.
Natural Conception
Most couples will become pregnant within a year (if having regular intercourse without using contraception). Providing a healthy environment for conception has long been something hopeful mothers-to-be will try to achieve during this period. From keeping active and eating a balanced diet to reducing alcohol consumption and stress, there are many ways in which to ensure you are in good health to conceive. Reflexology during this time can help reduce stress and bring the body into balance, allowing your body to become the optimum environment for conception to occur.
over 50% of clients seeking reflexology in connection with conception find themselves pregnant within six months*
For a few, this may not be enough, and assisted conception may be necessary, Reflexology can be incredibly supportive during this process also.
supported conception
Some couples require further intervention to conceive. Fertility treatment is always tailored to the individuals and as a result, each case requires a personalised Reflexology treatment programme. Reflexology can be incredibly beneficial during this time to encourage relaxation and support the process.
I have a deep understanding of all aspects of supported conception including drug stimulation with natural conception (Clomid), Drug stimulation with assisted conception (IUI) , IVF and soft IVF (natural cycle assisted conception). Please contact me and we can discuss your needs and the appropriate reflexology timings and treatments to suit you.
your pregnancy
Being pregnant can be a joyous experience, though there may be periods when either physically or mentally it can be challenging. During your pregnancy, your body will go through significant changes; these changes will affect the emotional, hormonal and physiological balance of your body. Having regular reflexology can help maintain or restore the body’s equilibrium allowing you to enjoy this wonderful time.
The following are conditions that may be helped by regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy;
Relief of stress and anxiety:
Fatigue;
Heartburn;
Backache;
Sciatica;
Nausea and vomiting;
High blood pressure;
Oedema (swollen feet or hands);
Ligament and groin pain;
Symphysis pubis dysfunction;
Constipation;
Cystitis;
Insomnia and sleep problems.
Reflexology is an incredibly relaxing treatment and allows you an hour to focus on yourself and your unborn child.
From 37 weeks the treatments will adapt to help your body prepare you for labour. The treatment becomes more intense and will stimulate the relevant points which encourage your body towards a calm, smooth delivery of your baby.
Research has shown that women who have regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy are more likely to have a shorter labour and require less pain relief.
Postnatal
Once the baby is here it is important that you continue to look after yourself. It is very easy to allow every waking moment to be filled with thinking of your new arrival, but please don’t let yourself get run down in the weeks following the birth. There is still so much reflexology can do you for you at this time, and with partners/ family at home or popping in to help there is no reason why you cant squeeze in a treatment to help your recovery. Giving birth is a huge thing for your body to go through and the following weeks may be tiring and at times overwhelming. Reflexology will help re-balance your hormones and encourage healing within the body. It can also help with the following:
Inadequate lactation;
Engorged breasts;
Urine retention;
Constipation;
Backache;
Stress and anxiety problems;
Sleep problems/tiredness.
I am also a qualified baby reflex teacher so can teach you some techniques to help you treat your baby.
